Blistery Hot Deals

This past Saturday was a hot one.

So hot that candles left in the sun for mere moments melted before your eyes. So hot that people who set up for garage sales wanted to give up before the shoppers, who were walking, in the sun, from sale to sale.

So hot that prices were being slashed to get rid of it.

I did not get an early start to my treasure hunting.
I was disappointed in the sales I was seeing, it just was not fun.
Did I mention it was HOT?

Then I came across a very nice woman tucked in an alley. Her items were quality and her prices were slashed. Nothing over fifty cents.

I noticed a plastic bag.

She said, no one else had even been curious. I could have it for a quarter.

Already distressed with nice patina. It also has a lovely blue detail.

As I jumped at that, another flash of blue caught my eye.

A trianglular crystal bowl, very heavy.

Filled with catseye stones and a gel candle in a triangle container.

I picked up a few other ten cent treasures and walked away with change from my buck.

This is my contribution to Blue Monday at Smiling Sally’s. Please visit to see all the entries and leave them nice comments.
I am also linking this to The Tablescaper’s Summer Sun meme.
I am sure you will also find me over at Bloggeritaville on Thrifty Thursday with another post as well.
I have just learned about Midweek Blues at The Dusty Cellar.

  10. What pretty things! We had a big neighborhood garage sale this weekend, too, but my mom isn’t very much into treasure hunting. Her sister thinks she’s kooky cuz she lives for the hunt. My mom’s lazy – I mean, um – well, yes, she’s kinda lazy and just wants those kinda treasures to be in the first place she looks. I don’t think she’ll ever be on that Antiques Roadshow show saying, “I bought this for 10 cents and now it’s worth one million dollars!”

    • We would never call your mom lazy. She is a busy, involved lady.
We also love finding treasures at the first place we look…and the next, and the next.
Of course there is the gazillion dollr dream, but I have been reading blogs about buying for a dollar and selling for a hundred or five. That would still make me smile. (And buy a lot of pet food and kitty litter.)
