Guilty Treasures

Do you ever get the feeling that you HAVE to buy something at a garage or yard sale?  It may not even be that the people are pressuring you but you feel you can’t leave without dropping at least a small coin.

Maybe the sale was for a charity or school trip or even cleaning out Grandma’s closet but the people holding it look so sad.  You don’t want the fundraising candy bar but feel that you invaded their space and need to show approval by finding something (anything) to buy.

Sometimes you pick up something for a dime or a quarter not even knowing what it is.

This sad little bear came in a 3 pack with his brothers.
I am not sure if the “clothing” is a hat and scarf

or one forlorn bear sized mitten  from someone else.

The bag of plastic eggs for a quarter did hold more than I at first noticed.

This cute little basket will  be part of a crafty project, probably with a bunny in spring.  The tiny fly swatters will be transformed.
The hairy ball with eyes jabbers away in a foreign tongue.

A  few more items to decorate the backyard and pond area.

Now – the winds have picked up and it has gotten dark quickly.
I just saw a streak of gray as the resident stray cat bolted towards the barn for cover. So, before the power goes off as it has often this summer I want to tell you who I am linking up with.

In case I am cut short, I do have a page at the top of the sidebar listing my daily hops and memes as well as some special events and favorite links.

  2. I do at some sales… esp the fundraisers & if they have kids selling stuff, forget it, its a sale of some kind… hate to make a kid sad.
that fuzzy thing with eyes is a ball? well it would make a funny gift for someone who has everything, or any of your fur-babies would be more than happy to play with it I bet!

  3. Hello…

Ohh yes…been there and done that! Hehe! I always feel like I should contribute in some way when I’m at a garage/yard sale…especially if it’s for charity! That’s my story and I’m stickin’ to it! Hehe! Love all the Easter eggs…yes, you’ll put them to good use…I’m certain!

My friend, I just wanted to come by to say thank you for stopping by and taking a peek at my birthday teacup and for leaving such sweet birthday well wishes! I see that a “Happy Birthday” is in order for you as well…although it may be a bit belated! Hope you had a great one, my friend!

    Warmest wishes,

  4. yes, I do it all the time. For example, yesterday we took a drive in the country and ran across an antique shop that was in a small building behind someone’s home. I rang the doorbell and this sweet little old lady came out…hobbling. She explained that she had been in the hospital and in rehabilitation for two months and had just gotten back home and to her little antique business. She was 89 years old. I felt like I just had to buy something from her. She did have beautiful glassware and I purchased a very pretty glass basket from her. It was a good day! Have a wonderful week. xo Lynn@TheVintageNest

  5. I need one of those “easy” buttons!

    • I did not know they were available until I found one (new in package) at a sale for a quarter.
Being a cheapo thrifter, I could not bring myself to take it out of the packaging, although it comes loaded with battery and can be played with.
So this week when I found one open for only 10 cents! It will be used more often.

    • I am sure he will be transformed somehow, alone or with one or 2 of his brothers.

  8. If it’s a fundraiser I feel that I HAVE to buy something. Looks like you have good ideas for your purchases!

  9. Hi there, thanks for stopping by The Far Fifty and thanks for the nice words! Yes, Kijiji is like Craigslist but better! You don’t have to click on the ad to see the picture, they’re all on the first page. It’s great.

  10. I find it especially hard to resist when there is a young child sitting at the “checkout” station next to a card table filled with home baked goods they have proudly made themselves – gets me every time. I’ll buy one and nibble on it while I take another look around.
I like the two decorative pieces for the garden and that easy button, we could all use one of those. Great finds!

  11. I do find it hard to leave a charity shop having spent nothing. It is for charity after all and I’d rather buy a 50p book and give it away than give them nothing. It was funny to see your pack of eggs, because I see them over here all the time – bought some myself of course, put them in the loft and forgot about them at Easter!

  12. Yes – I purchased something last weekend at a garage sale last weekend I’d preferred not to because my 6-year-old son requested it loudly in front of the seller and I couldn’t think fast enough to give a tactful refusal. ‘What?! That piece of old junk?’
