Diann’s Thrifty Things Friday #1

Filed under: Thrifty Finds — Laura R @ 8:57 AM

I am very excited to announce to you a wonderful and FUN thrifty link up party happening each Friday, originating out of the great state of Michigan, but you are encouraged to join from the comfort of your own home or favorite thrifting haunt.

Diann is a wonderful person, great mom and happily married
(today is her anniversary)  woman who is a lot of fun to visit and is extremely generous as well.
Let me tell you how to find Diann and link up.
Go to    The Thrifty Groove.

Because I want to play along, I am going to share with you somewhat of a mystery item I happened to find.

Handmade

Do you know what it is?  It fits in the palm of your hand, well a large hand. It is made of wood and most often used in a kitchen.

Here is another view.

Amish holder

Between the 2 halves is a  marble.   Not shown, on the back is a slit where it can be hung on a wall or from a counter front.

I wish I had a picture of it in use, but you’ll have to come back and remind me to take another photo.

(temporarily I will cheat and use images from web)

It is a handmade Amish towel holder and I was fortunate to find it new, in gift box, at a church sale last spring.  Because none of the church ladies knew what it was I got it for 50 cents.
I get a lot of things that way – when no one knows what they are or what they are for.

More snow is predicted for Wisconsin this afternoon but there is a huge indoor rummage sale going on in Green Bay.  I don’t think I will get there, but it is a sign that the season is beginning.

How are things in your area?

Please go visit Diann and Troy and wish them a Happy Anniversary!

(Troy is a great guy too – visit him at http://i-refuse-to-recede.blogspot.com/ )

Although I am late I am linking up for Thrifty Thursday at Bloggeritaville.

  8. My first thought was a hamburger pattie press….

But as soon as you mentioned the marble, I knew what it was!

    I haven’t seen a wooden one before, though—very unique!

    {especially for 50 cents!!!)

  10. Well, that is totally cool! I have never seen one while out thrifting and I had no idea what it was until you showed the example. I love to find Amish items. They are so inventive and are always wonderful quality and workmenship. Thank you for joining my first TTF party! I hope you are having an awesome weekend!

  11. The towel holder reminded me of a fabric design die holder… They look quite alike. I like gadgets like that and 50cents was a steal. Finally catching up after taking time out to handle offline stuff. 🙂

  12. Very clever – never seen anything like that before, so nice that you recognised what it was and rescued it.

  13. What a great find and a great story. I have never seen anything like this but then again, I would be one of those people who would pass this by because I didn’t know what it was. Lucky you to be that knowledgable. Are “church sales” similar to a rummage sale? I’ll have to check those out sometime. Visiting from SomethingCreatedEveryday.blogspot.com. I really enjoy your blog.
