An Off-Season Bag Bargain

Filed under: Thrifty Finds — Laura R @ 8:57 AM

A couple times a month while running errands we treat ourselves to a $5 pizza.
It tastes good, has lots of toppings and is large enough to satisfy two very hungry people.
The pizza place also shares a parking lot with the Goodwill store.
So while I wait for pizza to come out of the oven I take time to browse.

Bargain Bag

People were telling me I had my seasons mixed up but I say a bargain is a bargain any time of year, and I am partial to Halloween.

The obvious contents of this bag were pumpkin lights and I counted enough to make the toppers less than a nickel apiece

obvious Halloween lights

so those were worth the price of the bag and anything else was bonus, including the 2 strings of lights.

all sizes of pumpkins

Other sizes and shapes of pumpkins were also in the bag along with some Snoopys that originally carried candy. (No candy included.)

Another creature found in the bag

????

could be some sort of flying bug?  He may become part of the garden art.
After Halloween comes another holiday,  for which these may be useful.

The final item in the bag can keep me busy during the cold winter months and help me look forward to another summer.

Why is it lighthouses make me think summer?

Seeing the original price on the needlework kit

made me feel pretty good about spending $1.49 on the whole bag of goodies.

The same trip I also bought a few things for the cats and something for one of my collections which I will share in another post soon.

  1. I also love to look at the “holiday” aisle at GW. Off season is perfect for me as the prices seem good and the bargains are there for sure! Love the Halloween bag, great finds! hugs, Linda

  2. Off season is usually the time to find bargains. Nice to see your thrift store agrees! not all do and still want high & at time ridiculus prices! but I am near a tourist area so I think they are always pricing stuff for them, not the locals who do most of the shopping. I love halloween too, good buy!

    • I still think our GW has too high and often ridiculus prices, but maybe the manager was out sick when they priced this? I don’t see the connection between the needlework kit and all the other things, but I was not going to disagree.
They got their money back on another “deal” I convinced myself I had to have.

  5. Great finds. You did have me confused for a second on the Halloween items, but they are dirt cheap this time of year. And you are so lucky to have a GW next to the pizza place!

    • Or a good pizza place close enough to give me an excuse to hunt Goodwill.

  10. A $5 pizza? That’s a bargain price surely.

I love buying things off-season. Since I have nothing too faddish, that kind of shopping fits me perfectly. Right now, with autumn well on its way, I’m hunting dog walking shorts, summer Ts and bathers. They give me something to look forward to through the nasty cold months.

  14. Love your blog and your off season finds are super… one of the best things is to open up boxes and find things bought along the way.

  16. Great combination…pizza and the GW. I can’t shop when I’m hungry, so this works for me. I think we have to buy things when we see them, you’d never find a deal like this just before Halloween. Wonderful finds!

  20. Hello Dogmom’s, I smile when I see your name. I am a dogsmom too. This is belated but I want to thank you for commenting on my kitchen Cabinets. I left to go to an antique show in Atlanta on Weds.with my sisters who do a show there each month. I am selling too and this is the first chance I have had to get on my computer. Not much is selling so far.

I love your bag of Halloween stuff and especially the bargain price. I have some thrifted Halloween lights too. I love to shop for thrifty treasures the most. It is the best budget trick there is. You really found a wonderful bag of goodies. The lighthouse is awesome too. I am scrolling down to your kitchen to see what I missed.

    Have a great day.
    Hugs, Jeanne

  22. Great Halloween finds! I always look for off season holiday items. It is the way I haven’t gotten about 50% of my holiday decorations. Our SA has a big “Christmas in July” sale every year. They bring ot a ton of Christmas stuff and start selling it really cheap. Thanks for joining me for TTF! Haqve a great weekend!
