They Said “PLEASE”!!!

I found this CraigsList ad:

BEAUTIFUL FIVE OAKS PARK IS HAVING A COMMUNITY-WIDE RUMMAGE SALE THIS FRIDAY & SATURDAY,
MAY 20TH & 21ST FROM 9AM TO 5PM.

LOCATED ON THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF 10 & 114 THERE ARE ENTRANCES TO THIS GATED COMMUNITY FROM MANITOWOC RD, ONEIDA ST & 114.  SIGNS BY ALL ENTRANCES AND GATES WILL BE OPEN DURING THE SALE.

PLEASE COME TO OUR COMMUNITY-WIDE RUMMAGE SALE.

Until a few years ago I had no idea what a gated community was.
In some ways it is a version of a compound for wealthy people who don’t have a private compound.  It is a place where I envision people spend too much money on everything,  live for brand names, and do not trust anyone.

So for them to leave the gates open and beg invite  strangers in… my heart flutters.

What a time for me to be without my van!

Stay tuned to see how I solve this dilemma.

Of course this is also the weekend I have been looking forward to for ages. My first experience at a real (in person)  organized Shopping Experience.

Hawthorne Hill Farm is an 150-year-old farmstead located in New Berlin, Wisconsin which first opened to the public in 2010. The farm has been transformed into a unique destination where creativity and treasure hunting abound on themed weekends.  Treasures reflecting each theme fill the barn and farmhouse during the shopping weekend events.  There is no admission fee. (yay)

I have been planning this visit with hopes of maybe taking part in a future theme weekend.
I’ll let you know what happens.

  2. That sounds like sooo much fun.

I have a busy weekend planned as well. With a large church rummage sale (I’ve come to find these Church sales are the cheapest sales) and an estate sale with advertising like “Step back into the 50s in this home” I’m excited, and I’m excited for you too!! You’ll figure something out without your van.

    Have fun!

  3. Oh Man! I might even break my vow of abstinence (from yard sales and thrift stores, of course) for those two sales! I’ve got a truck and we can rent a trailer, that should be enough for both of us. hmmmm… maybe you need to call UHaul

  6. oooh, a gated community “please come buy our stuff” sale! That would have been fun. A “Horders” sale? It doesn’t get better that that! Thanks for joining TTF. Have an awesome weekend!!

  7. A sale in a gated community, now that’s one I’d like to attend. Have Jeep-Will Travel.

  8. Oh my. I lived in a gated community twice. But I am not any of the stereotypes. Sometimes it’s just the best deal for the money you have to put into housing. Have fun at the sales.

    • Thank you for that gentle slap. I think my definition was a result of present frustrations. I was responding as a reverse money snob and I was wrong to do so. I need to print an apology.
You are a caring and generous soul and I would never stereotype you in a negative manner.
No one should be judged on the basis of where they live or the vehicles they drive or even the labels on their clothing.
Thank you for making me aware of my false judgement tendency.
