I’ve Cut The Cable

I made the phone call to disconnect my cable tv service.
I have to find out where I safely  lost, misplaced stored my tv converter box.
(I’ve never used it.)

How does one go about watching tv free online?
Do you have any favorite places to connect?
Must I register?
Are newer shows available  or must I wait a day or more after they air?
That doesn’t matter to me.

Will I suffer withdrawls?  Remember I have been watching tv since the black and white days.

Any suggestions?     (No, not liquor.)

  1. Hmmmm…. I have no answers for you – none at all! This will be interesting to follow along with your commenters!

I’ve found that I look to the internet for everything… EVERYTHING! The tv is background noise for me when I’m sewing…

    I know – I’m no fun. LOLOL

  2. Hulu.com 🙂 even the monthly fee for hulu plus is less expensive. Also, many shows are streamed via netflix. Have subscriptions to both, and it costs less than satellite or cable. Also, the networks run their shows via streaming.

  3. Wow! You are brave!!! There’s no way I could do that! There are days I can go without watching TV, but my toddler….no way! She would make my life miserable if she didn’t have her shows! 🙂

  4. My son gave up cable a while ago, he watches hulu.com. It’s free and plays reruns of popular shows, but that’s about all I know about it.

  6. Ackk! I know some people can still get quite a few channels on the converter, depends on how close you are to the network I think? we have Dish, and hubby watches it the most. when I do watch it is movies normally. at least with the warmer weather you will have plenty outside to keep you busy… stay sane!

  8. Sounds like a good idea to me, we’re all on information overload. A friend of mine is thinking about doing the same thing and is looking into Netflix.

  9. My friend over at Sweet Repose had her cable turned off! She said she has a lot more time to look at blogs. She also joined Netflix and watches tons of movies. I’m not much on TV, but my husband would die a slow death if we turned cable off. Men are so funny, when they are tired they want to look at TV, when I’m tired I want to go to bed! We just got rid of our microwave, it broke so we are gonna see if we can live without it!

  10. If it weren’t for my husband, I’d turn off the cable in a heartbeat. Good for you!

I know you can watch many cable tv and network shows on their sites. If you have a good internet connection, it should work out fine for you. 🙂

  11. Congrats on cutting the cable. We did it several years ago, and have never regretted it. Okay I have a tough time without Monday Night Football(ESPN,) but other than that no regrets. We actually get about a dozen basic channels through our antenna, and Hulu is great for anything else.

  12. OMG There is no way I could possibly disconnect!!! I am addicted to television. I come home, turn it on, and listen/watch as I do other things. I DVR all my favorite shows, too. I am a child of the television age. It sure gets expensive- I have Time Warner and have bundled internet, 3 premium channels with 2 DVRs, and some kind of premium package for channels. I don’t have the most deluxe package there is, either. I pay approximately $180 a month, depending on whether or not I buy a movie for $5. They nickel and dime you for everything- even remotes! LOL Like you could actually change the channel by going to the receiver box! not!!! So I just pay it and enjoy. I would be lost without it all!
