Good Riddance Day

Many of us may not be aware that Good Riddance Day is an annual event held in Times Square in New York on December 28th and hosted by Cintas.

While a good portion of Cintas business comes from shredding documents to avoid identity theft, Good Riddance Day is the symbolic shredding (or otherwise destroying) your worst memory or experience of the year.

If you happen to be in New York and take some bad memory to be shred, take another moment and add a wish to the New Years Wishing Wall,

Wishes will be gathered before the New Years ball drop and turned into confetti (over one ton’s worth) to be rained upon those celebrating in Times Square.

Let me inject a Thank You here to those brave folk who clean up the mess after the event.

The last week of the year is also a wonderful time to Do Good while ridding yourself  of excess items.  Charity donation centers and food pantries would love to give you an extra tax receipt before the last day of the year.  I had intended to give you more details, but am down with a serious winter virus so will point you in this direction for more information.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year!

It's Your Time

  1. I hope they don’t use the documents as confetti too! I bet those streets are a mess most nights! esp weekends. Feel better quick! Healing hugs.

  3. Cool! I think I just naturally like to clean out things at the end of the year. I like to think the new year will be a tad less chaotic. 🙂

  6. HAPPY NEW YEAR to you too!

love the ideas in your post. i particularly like the shredding of bad memories. i might add a few bad people to the list lol.

i’ve started getting rid of excess this morning by ruthlessly going through my friends list on FB. now with 70 “friends” less, i feel strangely liberated! it didn’t do anyone good but me though :p also, i’m expecting some payback. that’s life! 🙂 x
