Dreaming of a Gypsy Life

Life has been stressful recently. Lack of bountiful income opportunities, health issues with aging parents, as well as a nonresponsive computer, too many weather disasters affecting friends all over the world… gloom and doom wherever one turns. I needed to get back to nature and find a way to look for positives in my life.  It was time to go for a walk in the woods!

As I was strolling I came across an abandoned covered wagon.

I began to think that I could climb on board and dream up a new life for myself,
one with less stress, fewer obligations, maybe even more fun?
It was time to take a deep breath, relax and dream.

I let my mind float away.   I began having Gypsy Dreams.
The forest I was in was filled with magic.

The covered wagon was now a proper Gypsy wagon  –

just as I had dreamt about.

I found myself sitting on the wagon deck with an invitation in my hand.

I thought I was hearing music.

It was getting louder.

I had best get dressed in something more festive!

Can’t forget the striped stockings!   The woods were filling up with colors and laughter and excitement.

It was turning ino a grand Gypsy Party!

And what is a Gypsy Gathering without Fortune Tellers?

I have heard it told that looking into one’s future is a power passed along with Gypsy blood.  Things have been so crazy in my life, dare I look to the future? Did I really want to know?

Perhaps if I chose my reader carefully… looked for a kindly soul…

(I  kept searching)

A good way to get to know people, ask questions and find what you seek is around a campfire.
I needed to find the campfire.

They were just beginning to light one.                            Where is the wood?
I was about to witness more of the Gypsy magical powers.

I can not give away all of the secrets I learned.

Perhaps if you visit me again for a Practical Magic Party, or  A Fanciful Twist’s Halloween Bash  you will learn more?
Kindly leave news of other magical parties in the comments section.

I did find my fortune teller and had a look into my future.

Mellow Yellow Moth Day

I am trying something new today,  and linking up with Mellow Yellow Monday.
And linking to It’s a Blog Party!

As I was working in the yard this weekend,  this guy was keeping me company.

“He” hung around a very long time, long enough to go inside for a camera.

He let me get very, very close.

Did you notice the fake eyes on the other end?

I have not identified the species.
Any ideas?

This post will also be linked up to Outdoor Wednesday.

A Much Cherished Visit and Local Exploring

Thursday I had the opportunity to be a tourist in my own area. To visit places that I had known as a child, but to explore in ways more appealing to an adult. My very dear friend Candy (Angel‘s Grandma) knew that I have been without transportation of my own for far too long. My independent spirit longs to be out and about  interacting with people and nature.
I am sure  you will hear more about my relationship with Candy as well as some of our wild adventures from our crazy (older) youth. She is one of the best people who will never grow up. She was trying to remind me that I have that type of spirit as well.
Candy happened to have a misfortune of transportation of her own recently. As a result, she was given a loaner vehicle for a week. One with so many bells and whistles and cameras and tv screens; where the seats went up/down, forward/backward, inflate/deflate… we did not have time to figure it all out.  It even comes with a spaceage key and buttons on the remote control it will take more than a week to figure out.
(I know because one of them automatically lowered the rear hatch onto my head!)

Of course you know I had to fit in some thrifting once I got away from the house.

At our first stop I found these wonderful decorative bells.
Being a St. Bernard mom you know I had to have them regardless of price, but they were at a decent $1 each.  Not the original tourist price, I am sure.
It also gave me an idea of where else we could be tourists.

On the way to that destination we passed through a very tourist oriented town, one that dries up when the “season” ends. We stopped at an arts gallery featuring regional crafts works.

http://www.twofishgallery.net/Site/About_Two_Fish.html

which also has a delightful wild garden behind it.
The artworks are fanciful, creative, and look like they could be made from found objects.

Just down the street from there is a consignment shop.

The items inside are interesting to look at, but the main attraction was a wonderful Black and White border collie named Lulu who enticed us into a game of frisbee.
The prices at the consignment shop were aimed at tourists.

Getting closer to our destination I was showing her a shopping mall where I was a security guard over nights while it was under construction.
We decided to investigate some of the shops, as this, too, is not somewhere I would do my own retail therapy.

The first store we visited is called Intentions.
It may be called a New Age or Metaphysical shop.
Crystals, Stones, Runes, self-help books, meditative and relaxation music, music from third world instruments,
incense, aromatherapy, numerology and reiki treatments.

Then, being the big kids we are, we had to stop at the toy shop.
Designed to feel as if one is exploring a castle.
Candy and I are both huge castle and medieval fans.

But we had more to investigate, as well as she had over a 3 hour ride home.
My good friend did not let the distance (or massive road construction) interfere with a day trip she felt I needed.

Our destination stop was one I had been priviledged to be invited to several times as a child. It is used as a girl scout meeting house.

Cameras were not allowed inside, so we took a brief tour, heard the history, and did some self exploration afterwards.

THE WAELDERHAUS
is built as a traditional Austrian home of the early 1900s.

Traditional costuming and intricate carving and ironwork make a beautiful piece of history.

Have I mentioned Candy has this incurable adventurous spirit?

She calls back to me – there used to be a path here!
Yah, in 1930!

Did I mention all the Haus people had gone home?
It was a long, steep drop down to an awfully brown river.

I convinced her the view from here was just fine.
There are other lovely flora to admire.

I know she will not forget, and another day, we will find ourselves further down the hill.

We did some other touristy looking around but as it was after 6pm I said I had to get back to the farm. The dogs would start to feel abandoned.

On the way, I saw more garage sale signs.
Disbelieving, Candy said no one would be open any more at this late hour.

So what could I do- I had to prove her wrong.
We did at least 7 more garages sales before I said lets head home.
She still said she could not believe people were out doing this at night.

What could I say?
I said I was certain that we would find yet another sale to stop at before she got me home, even though we were driving back country roads.

I will share my finds with you very soon.

I apologize for the change in type and font during the post. It was unintentional. If I knew how, I would fix it.

First, a quick review

Found Nest, end of April

First Week May, Some New Color

Not long after, 3 Hungry Babes

Still 3, the next week, getting bigger

Nest Not Big enough, One Booted Out

Feather Detail (a few days later)

Preparing for the Big Leap

Maybe a Walk Before I try Flying?

Watch Out for the Stray Cat!

Take Cover, Try Again Later

When last checked upon, the two I have been able to follow are beginning to do short, unsteady flights.  The cat has only been dining upon catfood and rodents.

For better pictures of the previous stages, please see my previous posts:
